October 2013 - Whaaa haaappen you?

Ummmm someone dropped the ball on this here blog - it's been overdue for 5 months!  I could blame it on the holiday's but really I think it might be more than that.  I'll splain but first let's break it down now, October that is.

Kaz

Firsts

October was a big month in development for our boy and I couldn't be happier to announce, he can hopscotch!  It takes lots of concentration and balancing but he CAN.  Wait, there's more...AND he can swing on a swing!  You would have thought he won the Nobel Peace Prize the way I reacted.  There were tears, squeals, kisses and snuggles galore!  I couldn't help myself.  It was beautiful and he was just SO proud of himself.  Parents often get accused of using the word "awesome" too much.  You can't help that either.  Cause in your eyes and and in your heart, it is.

If achieving those milestones weren't awesome enough Kaz also drew his 1st family portrait complete with very prominent knees, yes those are knees.  Momma, Kaz, Daddy, Zane, and Sydney and Maysen (who he affectionately called his "cousins") were also included.

Latest Obsession

Like most kids in preschool Kaz's daily assigned "job" is very important to him.  He is obsessed with two jobs specifically; "Calendar Helper" and "Weather Watcher."  My shy, introverted, quirky boy loves the two jobs that put him smack dab in front of the entire class.  Color me surprised!

Zane

Our baby turned 2!  You would think the best part of his birthday would be the cake, you know like any self respecting kid.  But our boy?  The domestic gifts.  I've never seen a kid so excited to mow the lawn and vacuum the carpet.  Lord willing this will still be the case when he has to do it for real...preferably, with pants on.

2 Year Check-up

He's the picture of health (except the reoccurring abscesses that have just become a part of our everyday) and development.

Weight: 31 lbs. 4 oz. = 85th%

Height: 35 1/4 = 75th%
Head: 50 cm = 85%

Latest Obsession

If you want Zane to be your friend for life, just offer to smell his feet.  Of course your reaction needs to be appropriate, "Ewwww stinky!"  He will love you forever and will want you to do it over and over and OVER again.  Everyone's got a thing, right?

Feeding into Zane's other obsession we are proud to introduce...

Firsts

Did I mention Zane turned 2.  Have you ever heard of this phenomenon called, "The Terrible 2's"?  While there was much to be celebrated in the month of October I think experiencing my first REAL fit in public (aka "he fell out") with Zane left me in such a state of shock that I just couldn't bring myself to write about it.  I felt embarrassed.  I felt defeated.  I felt like if I gave it power it would overpower me.  I felt broken.  OMGosh it just ate at me to the point that I couldn't bring myself to write this post for 5 months!  I know what you're thinking, "then don't."  Please.  How can I not.  It was EPIC!  Now you're thinking, "dramatic much?"  Look it was my first and did I mention, it was EPIC?

In a mall; Bags strewn...no wait, THROWN all over; Stroller flipped; Shoes kicked off;  Food spilled; Writhing; Kicking; Screaming; Crying (both of us); Hitting; Running; child.  I tried the empathetic and nurturing approach.  I tried being stern.  I tried counting.  I tried redirecting.  I tried bribing!  He wasn't havin' any of it.  Ultimately I had to LITERALLY wrestle him into his stoller, strap him down, gather my bags and dignity, and march out of the mall while my child screamed like I was abducting him.

My favorite part?  People pretending not to look.  People walking over the bags, the child, and my hopes for humanity.  Seriously could no one offer to lend a helping hand?  I get it, no one wants to "interfere" but I wouldn't have denied the help!  Maybe pick up that bag or stroller you just walked over?  I would do it for you.  I HAVE done it for you!

THEN out in the parking lot as I had to strong arm him into his seat (kicking and flailing) a woman inched forward into the empty parking space that my bags and flipped stroller (yup, again) were currently occupying and honked at me!  "O. M. Geee, what did you do?"  Let's just say, she could see I was not the one and smartly backed up, moved on down the road, and stayed in her car till I left.  Best decision she made ALL day.

Do me a favor, should you ever encounter such a situation please know you don't need to say anything.  Just DO SOMETHING to let that parent know you understand thier pain and they will survive this.  Oh and to those of you who were there that day at the mall and are rolling your eyes, retelling the tale to your friends making me out to be an awful mother with the uncontrollable kid.  It's people like you who make good parents like me doubt themselves.  Stop it and have a little compassion for what someone else might be going through.  And whatever you do, DON'T honk!

I wish I could say that this was the last of these cute little episodes but in the end I keep reminding myself that stuff like THIS is a right of passage and one day...a LONG time from now...I will laugh at this and THIS will make the sweet loving times that much sweeter...right?

Momma and Daddy

Look who's been married for 11 years.  These people right here!  Yup 11 years.  And dare I say the last 5 have been the absolute best!  Thank you Kaz and Zane for making us a "family".

Ok.  So I took a little sabbatical.  But I'm back!  One post down and 4 to go to catch up.  I can do this.  Besides, there's so much cool stuff to capture.  Our first trip away together WITHOUT the kids.  Winter wonderland Christmas with a basement slide.  Our first trip to the most happiest place on earth.  Soooo much to be grateful for.  So much to celebrate.  So many things to laugh at...uh even if we are the only ones laughing.  Like this silly video.  You had to be there.
