The best thing about flying 2000 miles is when we walk through the door this is always waiting for us.  It's a taste of home and it's delicious chocked full of love .

Christmas Extra's

Special Delivery

We put in a special request to Santa and asked him to deliver Christmas early since we were going away to spend quality time with family out of state, and this is how the boys reacted to the very special gift Santa's little elves made. (BTW, it's slow to start.)

Facebook - December 15:
"Their reaction was EVERYTHING! The “Hot, uh oh.” when Zane touched the oven to the “love it” dance; oh and let’s not forget the egg FLIPPING! Seeing how excited they were made it so worth the time and effort of our little DIY project.

We tried to use and reuse items we already had...

Total cost of new material (cabinet, molding, hinge, magnet closure, plexiglass, stove knobs) = $48. It aint perfect (don’t even get me started on the fabric wallpaper) but it’s perfect for us and really, are the boys gonna care about the little imperfections?"
A few days later I walked into the play room and found this!  Disturbing?  Yes.  But not so surprising to most considering we have 2 boys.  Two boys or not, this is just wrong.  And I'm even more disturbed that I couldn't help but laugh.  Guess which kid was responsible.  The one who couldn't tell me why of course.

Holiday Travel

As we were boarding the plane heading to our Midwest winter wonderland Christmas, we discovered...
Facebook - 12/19: "Had a little freak out (4 seperate seats!) but we are on our waaaaaayyy! People ARE awesome (no sarcasm, totally mean it - thank God!)"
I cannot even begin to tell you the panic that sets in when you are told to just put your 2 and 4 year old in a seat next to a stranger.  Thankfully someone immediately traded seats and Zane was able to sit with his Daddy, but poor Kaz, with huge tears streaming down his face, wasn't so lucky.  There he was across the isle from me confused, scared, fighting back his tears as I told him it would be ok.  His brave shaky voice asking for his silky.

Tears welling up in my eyes I handed it to the man sitting in the isle seat next to him.  He didn't even look at me.  The man in the window seat next to Kaz sank down and looked strait ahead.  I didn't know the cost of an isle and window seat was your soul.

Then a man behind us said, "No, a little boy needs to sit with his momma."  He offered his golden isle seat to the guy sitting next to me who couldn't be bothered with trading seats with Kaz!  I swooped that little boy up, wiped the tears from his eyes, kissed him, and felt the biggest sigh of relief exhale out of his body.  My faith in humanity completely restored!  How did this happen?  Lesson learned; check your tickets BEFORE you leave the ticketing stand.

Snowbound Fun!
Whatyado when you're snowbound and the minions are getting restless.  You get; creative, crazy, desperate... You get cardboard!  This was SOOOOO much fun!  BTW, if you're not a little minion and you want to give it a go?  Do it early.  Before the cardboard wears out.  Trust me.

Milestones

Facebook - 12/09
"Alphabet Monsters by Kaz: I cannot express how wonderful this is. There are too many levels of happiness."
Not only is this a creative, cute, and whimsical doodle, it's also hard work, and promise recorded on a single sheet of paper that brought this momma to tears (can I still blame all this crying on pregnancy hormones - it's only been 2 years).  "Yeah it's cute but pull it together woman."  But you don't understand what this means.  This is a pivotal moment in Kaz's development.  This is fine motor skills in full bloom.  This is an end to OT at our fingertips - literally.
Facebook - 12/4:
Me: "Kaz we really should cut the front of your hair just so it's not in your eyes."
Kaz: "Sampson didn't cut his hair and I'm pretending to be Sampson."

So there will be NO haircut in the foreseeable future.
Is that not the best argument you've ever heard against getting a haircut from a 4 year old?!  While it was VERY clever it had to be done, he was just getting so scraggly.  After MUCH cajoling, pleading, trickery (yeah, I'm not beneath it), and finally insisting, on 12/30 this happened.  Once we got there I talked to the stylist briefly (out of ear shot) and explained our "sensory processing integration situation" and then I gave Kaz complete control.  He picked his haircut and he had to tell the woman what he did and did NOT want.  "No buzzers.  No blowers.  Scissors only."  I just stood there beaming with pride.  She was so good with him and involved him throughout the whole process.  Now (6 months later) if I mention getting a haircut he doesn't immediately throw himself to the floor in a fit of fear.  He just calmly reminds me of his parameters and then we decide, naaaaw let's let it grow ;)

Lastly, someone had a birthday.  Not a milestone birthday or anything but I guess every day is a blessing and if you see another year of bliss it should be celebrated.  42.  Sounds soooo weird when I say it out loud.  Two years closer to 50!  I can't wait to be her.
